The Transformation Story

A bathroom and kitchen renovation featuring a monochrome palette with grey terrazzo-look floor tiles. The bathroom includes a built-in bath with matte black tapware, while the kitchen showcases a chevron marble splashback and island bench.

The Brief

This apartment renovation was driven by a clear design direction: terrazzo tiles as the hero material, supported by a disciplined black-and-white palette. The client wanted something bold but liveable - a space that would make an impression without feeling like a showroom. The scope covered the bathroom and kitchen, with an integrated laundry fit-out to maximise the compact footprint. Every material choice had to work within the monochrome scheme while delivering on durability.

Terrazzo Bathroom

The bathroom is where the terrazzo makes its statement. We used it on the floor and as a feature element, letting the speckled pattern do the talking against crisp white fixtures. The freestanding bath sits as the centrepiece, with a matte black floor-mounted mixer adding that essential contrast.

Matte black tapware runs throughout - shower, basin, everywhere. It's a deliberate choice that sharpens the monochrome palette. Against the terrazzo and white sanitaryware, the black fixtures create visual anchors without competing with the stone.

Behind the finishes, proper waterproofing to Australian Standards ensures everything stays dry where it should. Terrazzo needs a solid substrate, and we don't cut corners on what you can't see.

Chevron Kitchen & Laundry

The kitchen continues the monochrome theme with a white chevron splashback that adds texture and movement. It's a pattern that catches light differently throughout the day - subtle visual interest without fighting the bathroom's terrazzo statement.

The cabinetry is handleless and contemporary, keeping lines clean. We integrated the laundry into the kitchen zone, maximising the available space with a compact but functional setup. Quality stainless steel fixtures in the sink area ensure durability for daily use.

The whole kitchen-laundry zone works as a cohesive unit - same colour palette, same design language, everything considered as part of the whole rather than afterthought additions.

Bold Choices, Quality Execution

This project demonstrates what happens when you commit to a design direction and execute it properly. The terrazzo bathroom delivers genuine impact - the kind of space that makes people stop and look. The chevron kitchen supports without competing. Bold material choices work best when backed by solid fundamentals: proper waterproofing, quality fixtures, finishes that will last. The monochrome palette ties everything together, creating an apartment where every space feels considered. Terrazzo, chevron, black tapware, white fixtures - all working in harmony. That's the result of planning, not accident.

Frequently Asked Questions about Sydney Renovations

What is the difference between real terrazzo and terrazzo-look tiles?

Real terrazzo is poured in-situ or fabricated from concrete with marble/stone chips, then ground and polished. It is heavy, expensive, and requires specialist installation. Terrazzo-look porcelain tiles replicate the appearance at a fraction of the cost and weight. They are suitable for apartments where floor loading is a concern and offer consistent patterning that real terrazzo cannot guarantee.
